The historic and upscale neighborhood of Sherman Oaks is a San Fernando Valley neighborhood popular with families seeking a suburban lifestyle. It was named for General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, born in 1853, who owned all the land now named in his honor.

Sherman Oaks was once blanketed by citrus groves, like much of the San Fernando Valley, but by the 1950s, it became one of the first commercially and residentially developed neighborhoods. At the cross section of the 405 and 101 freeways, Sherman Oaks is centrally located and just over the hill from Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. Ventura Boulevard is the main artery of this neighborhood and boasts mom-and-pop shops as well as many gastropubs, wine bars and cafes.

You can’t go wrong with a farmers’ market, so come hungry and eat fresh.
